Cheap Underwater Video Camera for Training

Most of you that are into Total Immersion are aware that having underwater video of your swim stroke is invaluable for improving your swimming. All the TI coaches that I know offer underwater video as part of their lessons to show students what they look like when they are swimming and to point out the things that they talk about in the lessons. It truly is an excellent tool for any swimmer that wants to learn to swim better and especially those that want to learn to swim the TI way.

However, most swimmers don’t have the equipment to take underwater video. This is very unfortunate because a lot of TI coaches offer video analysis via the internet (including myself) and the many helpful swimmers on the TI forums can do a lot more to help you if they have a video to work with.

In light of that fact, I wanted to write a quick blog to share with you the low cost camera that I use to take video of my clients. The camera is called the Kodak Playsport ZX3. I have had the camera for about 5 months now and I absolutely love it. It is very small, easy to use, takes HD video, and it has an underwater mode that filters the blue color out of the video. I can’t say enough about it.

Right now (11/30/10), Amazon.com has this camera as low as $114.00 and has a bundle that includes a tripod, a 4 GB SD card, and a remote control for just $139.00. You can check the bundle out by clicking here (obviously, this link may not work at some point if the deal goes away at amazon)

The Kodak Playsport ZX3 has gotten some very bad reviews. How did you get so lucky?

      Hi Cindy,

      Thanks for stopping by.

I am not sure about the reviews. I haven’t really looked at reviews. I bought this camera right when it came out before there were any reviews and have had no problems. I also know two other TI coaches that bought one after using mine and they love it as well. One thing that you have to realize is that a lot of the reviews on the internet are given by the few that had a problem compared with the thousands that have been satisfied that never give a review. You are more likely to give a bad review if you don’t like it than you are to take the time to give a good review (or a satisfactory review) if you do like it. At least that is how I see it…there are tons of products that I have bought and liked but never went and gave a rating on any website.

Either way, I didn’t really pay attention to the reviews…I just know that I haven’t had a problem and I love the camera and the way it performs for what I use it for.

      Thanks for the comment.
      Ryan

    Hi there,
I have been searching for inexpensive video camera for a while to record my TI swimming training. Kodak PlaySport video camera was on my list but i was a little bit hesitating to purchase. After reading your review, i went ahead and ordered from Amazon. I think it is an excellent deal especially the bundle version.
    Thanks.
