About the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center (CS – OTC)

The U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs is the flagship training center for the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Olympic Training Center programs. USA Swimming and USA Shooting, both USOC member organizations known as national governing bodies, have their national headquarters on the complex. Over 15 other member organizations, as well as two international sports federations, and the USOC headquarters are located nearby in Colorado Springs.
The Olympic Complex, former home of ENT Air Force Base and the headquarters of the North American Defense Command, officially became USOC administrative headquarters in July 1978. In 2010, the USOC moved its administrative offices from the complex to a new, modern facility in downtown Colorado Springs.
In October 1996 and April 1997, the USOC officially dedicated and opened its new $23.8 million, Phase II facilities- a state-of-the-art sports medicine and sport science center, an athlete center, which includes a dining hall and two residence halls. The USOC is able to provide housing, dining, recreational facilities and other services for up to 557 coaches and athletes at one time on the complex.
About our Total Immersion Workshops at the CS – OTC
This two-day course takes you through all the Total Immersion drills and numerous strategies for full stroke mechanics. Resulting in a freestyle that is faster, easier, and more efficient for the long haul. Numerous video sessions will be uploaded for free to a private internet video channel for your viewing after the clinic, including instructor comments to remind you of your strengths and opportunities for improvement.
We’ll teach you the four key skills of Fishlike Freestyle:
1. Cooperate with Gravity – Most swimmers fight gravity trying to stay on top of the water. We teach you to find your natural equilibrium by sinking into weightlessness. Learning to relax into the water breaks the “survival- stroking” cycle, and frees your arms and legs for their best use. Besides, gravity is a powerful natural force; doesn’t it make more sense to use it than fight it?
2. Take the Path of Least Resistance – Once you understand that you must swim through the water — and mindful that water is almost 800 times denser than air — it’s logical to focus more on how well you streamline than how you pull and kick. We’ll teach you to shape yourself to cut through the water like a torpedo by alternating a right side streamline with a left side streamline. Each stroke will move you farther and faster with less effort.
3. Swim with your body – Traditional thinking about swimming treats the body as having an “arms department” that pulls you forward and a “legs department” that pushes you forward. In Fishlike Freestyle, you swim with your whole body, instead of your arms and legs. We’ll teach you to propel with a simple 2-beat kick, relaxed and rhythmic weight shifts, rather than arm-and-leg churning.
4. Breathe easy – We’ll also teach you about breathing easily as you swim. No more breathlessness, no worries about choking. The air is free, take all you need.

We recommend that male students wear a Speedo-type brief or close-fitting triathlon swim shorts, rather than loose-fitting swim trunks, which can make balance even more of a challenge.
LODGING: The Olympic Training Center is offering room and board on site for $90 per night (or see the combined prices below). This price includes a dorm in amongst the Olympic athletes, meals at the cafeteria where the athletes eat, and transportation to and from the Colorado Springs Airport. For more info on lodging at the Olympic Training Center, contact Ryan at ryan@tribasetraining.com. There are also numerous hotels in the Colorado Springs area in close proximity to the OTC.
TRANSFER POLICY: Weekend workshops: If a request to transfer is received 8 days or more prior to the workshop, a $100.00 transfer fee per person will be applied to a future workshop, and the deposit will be credited toward that workshop.

I am seriously considering taking the TI course, but it seems expensive and I just want to get some idea of what to expect. I am the worse swimmer in the history of swimming … but if I can swim competently after this clinic it seems worth it. Do you guys ever have anyone take the course and fail or still be unable to swim. Just trying to make a good decision. Thanks.
Hi Walter,
Thanks for stopping by! To answer your question, yes….it has happened. The only ones that I have ever seen take this course and fail and still not be able to swim WAY better than before are those that don’t put anything into the course. What you get out of the course is a product of what you put into it in terms of attention, dedication, and practice. The same for the next 30 years of swimming. In this course, you will get the tools you need to practice well for the rest of your life and improve your swimming beyond what you thought possible. It takes work and dedication though. You have to use the tools. New habits take practice. So, while you won’t get a quick fix pill from this course that will magically make you swim like Michael Phelps in two days time (although there will likely be some things that are such easy changes that they will feel just like a magic pill), what you will get is the tools you need to make awesome improvements to your swimming. This course is certainly for you.

Hi Ryan
I would like to register my wife and I for the June 30-July1 class. It says to contact you to get the group rate. If possible we would like to also stay at the center.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks
Kirk
Hi Kirk! Send you an email with details!
Hi!
I would like to take a workshop that consists maybe of 4 days at least, since I will be traveling from Mexico to your place, it seems to me that 2 days of your workshops wouldn’t be that much to really learn freestyle swimming.I am now in the sport of triathlon and want to lower my swimming times, due to the fact that I feel very slow in the water.Hope you could answer my doubts.Greetings.
Herman.
Hi Herman,
It depends on what you want to accomplish. 2 days with at least 4 or 5 hours of pool time per day is quite exhausting actually. You might find that is exactly what you need. Can we talk on the phone?
